SCORE Peoria receives National Recognition

Published September 10, 2013

SCORE Peoria Chapter 90 received two awards recognizing outstanding achievement at the annual SCORE National Leadership Conference in Dallas, Texas, on August 13-15. The Peoria chapter received the Outstanding Chapter Performance Award by having the highest volunteer engagement of all SCORE chapters as verified by an independent survey. The chapter also received the Chapter Growth Award given to chapters that achieved in fiscal year 2012 a 20% growth in services provided to clients through mentoring (both face to face and email), number of workshops held and workshop participants.

Jim Peugh and Jannise Bush are the co-chairs of the SCORE Peoria chapter who accepted the awards in Dallas on behalf of all the volunteers. Bush said, “We are pleased to accept the awards on behalf of the dedicated, hard-working volunteers of the SCORE Peoria chapter.” Peugh added, “Our volunteers are committed to giving back by helping small businesses and nonprofits succeed and grow – we appreciate receiving these awards that acknowledge their contributions.”

SCORE is a national nonprofit association of more than 11,000 volunteers in more than 330 chapters across the country dedicated to helping small businesses get started, grow and achieve their goals through education and mentorship. SCORE was founded in 1964 by the U.S. Small Business Administration and the SCORE Peoria chapter was founded on August 1, 1965.

Our SCORE Peoria chapter is one of the best in the country and was named Illinois Chapter of the Year for 2012 under the leadership of outgoing chair Bill Axelrod (Bill is leaving the position as Peoria chapter chair on October 1 to take a position with the SCORE Illinois district office). The SCORE Peoria area chapter serves 10 counties in central Illinois – Peoria, Fulton, Knox, Mason, Woodford, Putnam, Stark, Tazewell, Warren and Marshall. A PricewaterhouseCoopers survey in 2012 of area residents who came to SCORE Peoria for mentoring and/or workshops found that 47 new businesses were started and 37 existing businesses grew their businesses by $5,649,263 in revenue (total).
